Teton Kids Skiing & Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding for adaptive athletes through the public schools with JHMR instructors and Teton Adaptive volunteers. Yes, please!

Teton Kids adaptive skiing program teaches fun!

For 18 years Teton County School District students with disabilities from Colter Elementary and Teton County Middle and High Schools have skied with Teton Adaptive volunteers and JHMR staff at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) for ten weeks of fun and learning. After skiing in the Teton Kids Program, local kids are eligible to participate in Special Olympics Area games and State Championships.

It takes a Village

One sit skier, one Slider skier and 20 kids with cognitive, developmental and physical disabilities using hula hoops, bamboo poles, learning games, practice running gates and tree trails skied for ten weeks this past year! Six were elementary students, one from middle school, 11 from high school and three from transition academy. They competed in the State Special Olympic races with numerous athletes taking podium spots!

Also, we had more skiers on the upper mountain than ever before. Jonah skied Casper and said, “this is the best day skiing I’ve ever had!” to his ski buddy, Lettie, who was one of five volunteers who came out one day per week to make sure that all the kids were covered.

How it Works

  1. Check in with the Teton County School District Special Education Program

  2. Ask if your child can be involved

  3. TCSD & JHMR instructors get them geared up

  4. They get on the lifts or gondolas and ski and snowboard!
